Do you know which T-Shirt is the right one?

Do you know which T-Shirt is the right one?

In today’s modern world, a T-shirt has become one of the most popular clothing items in the office, at school and at outdoor events. Luxury clothing is no longer as important  as comfort. If you walk down the street, you will notice that many people wear T-shirts. Traditional advertising channels like TV and radio commercials, newspapers and outdoor advertisements are quite expensive and have a fixed timeframe. A T-shirt with a logo is the simplest and most inexpensive way to advertise, get attention and make your brand visible.

You can get a logo, your company’s name or slogan printed or embroidered on a T-shirt. Using T-shirts with a logo is a way of advertising your brand. Ray Wright has described that an advertisement obviously depends on whether the audience sees the messages displayed on various advertising channels and acts on them (Wright 2000, p. 26).  Therefore the existence of an advertisement is what attracts people’s attention and provides information for further communication. You could say that the purpose of advertising is to help sell goods. It can only help a brand or company provide information and raise awareness. Without advertising, people wouldn’t know how to make informed choices.

Where to use T-shirts with a logo?

  • In a raffle where customers have the chance to win a T-shirt with your company’s logo or an interesting design (mobile advertising).
  • At events: within the company’s inner and outer circle, employees at sporting events, athletes.
  • In addition to giving T-shirts to customers, employees wearing them could improve team spirit. For example, you could give a T-shirt to every new employee as a welcome gift or workwear. This also shows the company’s visitors that this place has a united team and good teamwork, which gives a great first impression.
  • A T-shirt could also have a unique design and slogan that are different from the norm, which makes employees want to wear it even more.

There are several aspects when it comes to T-shirts and you should consider the following when choosing one:

  • is it a one-time or a long-term, recurring advertisement?
  • for which purpose, in which conditions and where will they be worn?
  • is the wearer male or female?
  • environmental awareness
  • the material and its thickness
  • resistance to frequent washing and high temperatures
  • the style and cut

The larger the quantity of the shirts ordered, the cheaper the price. The decisive factor will be the material that the shirts are made from: cotton, organic cotton, polyester or a mixture of materials. Naturally, it is nowadays recommended to choose a material that is as skin friendly and soft as possible, but durable at the same time. The thickness of the material is important if you want, for example, a white shirt so that it is not see-through. When it comes to work clothing, the strength and durability of the material are assessed to make sure that the product can withstand washing at high temperatures, as well as how the shirt retains its shape after several washes. There are models with a very wide colour spectrum and models with only a few colours to choose from.

T-shirts made of 100% cotton are more durable and retain their shape better. The same is true for organic cotton: this material is more environmentally friendly, good for the skin, natural and contains GMO-free fibres, the production of which requires less water than regular cotton. Additionally, it doesn’t require any chemicals to produce, including fertilisers and pesticides.  A T-shirt can be a mixture of multiple materials, such as cotton and polyester or cotton and elastane, which have a larger colour selection than usual. T-shirts made from 100% polyester are great for being active because they wick moisture away from the skin better and the material dries quicker than cotton. They also help cool down the body.

Companies often prefer cheaper T-shirts to more expensive ones. The price of inexpensive T-shirts is between 2–5 euros. But why is this not a good choice? Cheap T-shirts are not durable and they can easily lose their shape, colour and appearance. This, in turn, could make the person to no longer want to wear it, thus the shirt is not being used and the advertisement does not work.  It is also good to keep in mind that if you are paying for the printing as well as the shirt, it is not wise to choose the cheapest option, which will be neglected after the first use or thrown out.

More expensive T-shirts, which could, on average, cost 10-15 euros, are more durable, more comfortable, of higher quality material and machine washable at higher temperatures. People prefer a higher quality T-shirt and, ultimately, it is a more reasonable choice if you take wearing time into account.
